Why the Daily Nomad Journal Exists - Daily Nomad

Why the Daily Nomad Journal Exists

, by Mikael J Arvid Malm, 2 min reading time

What longevity actually looks like in clothing and footwear — from construction details to material choices that reveal themselves over time.

The Daily Nomad Journal

Slow fashion stories, European craftsmanship, and context around things made to last.

Why this journal exists

Fast fashion moves quickly — too quickly to explain how things are made, why materials matter, or what longevity actually looks like over time.

The Daily Nomad Journal exists to slow that process down.

We work with small European workshops whose knowledge doesn’t fit neatly into product descriptions or seasonal campaigns. Their work deserves context — not hype, urgency, or trends.

This journal is where we document that context.

What we write about

The Journal focuses on the physical, practical realities of clothing, footwear, and utility goods.

You’ll find writing on:

  • Materials — how they age, wear, and fail over time

  • Construction — what lasts, what doesn’t, and why

  • Use — care, repair, and real-world wear

  • Workshops — the people and places behind the work

We publish long-form guides, short field notes, and occasional updates when new work arrives that genuinely earns attention.

How often we publish

There is no fixed schedule.

We publish when there is something worth sharing — not to fill a calendar, and not to chase engagement.

Some months are quiet. Others bring longer pieces that take time to read. That pace is intentional.

What this journal is not

The Daily Nomad Journal is not a sales channel, a trend report, or a place for constant announcements.

Products may appear in context, but they are never the starting point. Understanding comes first.

Who it’s for

This journal is for people who:

  • Prefer fewer things, used longer

  • Value repair over replacement

  • Want to understand what they own

  • Care where things come from, and how they’re made

If that resonates, you’ll feel at home here.

New entries are added occasionally. Subscribe on the Journal page to receive them by email.
